Researchers develop wireless epidermal patches for glucose monitoring

Researchers in the United States are advancing the field of epidermal or wearable electronics by developing flexible, wireless patches capable of analyzing glucose levels in sweat. These devices are designed to adhere directly to the skin, utilizing electrochemical sensors and low-power flexible circuits to monitor physiological data without the need for invasive methods.

Unlike traditional rigid electronics, these epidermal patches are lightweight and designed to maintain stable contact with the skin during physical activities such as walking or exercising. While institutions like the University of California San Diego have previously conducted research into sweat-based substance analysis, scientists note that significant scientific and clinical challenges remain before sweat-based glucose monitoring can fully replace conventional blood glucose control systems.
