Researchers in Argentina study black soldier fly larvae for waste conversion

Agustín Luna, a researcher at CONICET and the National University of Córdoba, is investigating the potential of black soldier fly larvae to transform organic waste into fertilizers and animal feed.

Working at the Institute of Biological and Technological Research, Luna utilizes an experimental breeding facility to analyze how larvae consume organic matter. This process can convert waste into useful agricultural products in approximately 10 to 15 days, a significantly faster timeline than traditional composting, which typically requires three to six months.

The research aims to establish a value chain that converts discarded materials into economically valuable raw materials for new productive systems.
