Researchers trace Battle of Myriokephalon to Bağırsak Gorge

Researchers are working to pinpoint the exact location of the historical Battle of Myriokephalon, with current evidence suggesting it took place in the Bağırsak Gorge near Konya, Turkey.

Prof. Dr. Ahmet Çaycı, Head of the Art History Department at Necmettin Erbakan University, stated that historical sources, geographical data, and field research support this location. The findings are the result of a collaborative effort involving Necmettin Erbakan University, Konya Metropolitan Municipality, and the Konya Museum Directorate.

Experts noted that the data aligns with the routes taken by Byzantine Emperor Manuel I Komnenos and historical accounts from the Armenian historian Simbat, who placed the battle near Meldinis Castle. The research aims to provide a scientific basis for the battle's site, and a scientific workshop is planned to further discuss these findings.
