Reserve Bank of India Holds Repo Rate at 5.25% Amid Inflation Concerns

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) left its repo rate unchanged at 5.25% in the June 5 monetary policy meeting, dismissing earlier expectations of a hike despite rising global inflation pressures. The decision means home loan and other loan rates will remain steady for now, although analysts note that future rate adjustments could occur if inflation, driven by higher crude oil prices and a weak monsoon, intensifies.

A brokerage report from Centrum Institutional Research, citing the RBI’s August policy review, predicts the central bank will keep rates on pause until at least October. The report highlights that current inflationary pressures are largely imported, stemming from energy costs rather than domestic demand, and suggests any future tightening will depend on oil price trends, monsoon performance, and core inflation developments.
