Reserve Bank of New Zealand announces leadership changes as Karen Silk departs
Karen Silk, Assistant Governor for Money and a member of the Reserve Bank of New Zealand’s Monetary Policy Committee, will depart the organization in mid-December. Silk, who joined the bank in 2022 following a career in financial services at Westpac, stated that the departure marks the beginning of a new chapter focused on family and personal interests.
In response to the vacancy, Governor Anna Breman announced a restructuring of the Executive Leadership Team. The single Assistant Governor role previously held by Silk will be split into two distinct positions: Assistant Governor Monetary Policy and Assistant Governor Payments and Cash. Breman noted that this change is intended to strengthen leadership capacity, clarify accountabilities, and improve coordination across the bank’s core functions.
Silk will remain in her current role through the December monetary policy decision to ensure continuity. The bank’s board is expected to recommend an appointee for the new Monetary Policy role, which will require approval from the Finance Minister.
