Resialentejo achieves high waste management performance in Portugal
Resialentejo has been recognized as one of the top-performing urban waste management systems in Portugal. According to recent data, the company achieved a 61% rate in preparation for reuse and recycling in 2025, making it the second-best system among 23 national providers. This figure exceeds the national average of 39% and brings the company closer to the 63% target set for 2030 under the PERSU 2030 framework.
Additionally, Resialentejo significantly reduced its landfill deposition rate to 29%, compared to a national average of 54%. This represents a sustained improvement from a 61% rate in 2021. The Portuguese Environment Agency (APA) report identified the company as having the lowest residual fraction in the country, noting that the Baixo Alentejo region, served by Resialentejo, shows high levels of bio-waste selective collection.
The company attributes these results to a strategy focused on modernizing infrastructure, improving treatment process efficiency, and strengthening selective collection to reduce the amount of waste sent for elimination.
