Resident Evil franchise marks 30 years of survival horror

The Resident Evil franchise, originally launched by Capcom in 1996, is celebrating its 30th anniversary. The survival horror series has expanded to include 31 related titles, focusing on the eleven main entries and their remakes.

A new film adaptation directed by Zach Cregger, known for Barbarian, offers a unique take on the franchise. Rather than a direct adaptation of a specific game, the movie follows a medical courier named Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, in a story that captures the series' signature blend of horror, action, and body horror. While not considered canon to the video games, the film is noted for its stylistic similarities to Resident Evil 4.

As the franchise marks three decades, discussions continue regarding the best entries in the series, ranging from the original investigation of the Umbrella Corporation to the survival struggles in Raccoon City.
