Resident Evil Outbreak available for free via web browser

The Resident Evil Outbreak series, originally released for PlayStation 2 in 2003 and 2004, is now playable for free through a web browser via the Outbreakweb project. This allows players to experience the cooperative horror titles without the need for a PlayStation 2 console, network adapter, or emulator.

The project includes the five original scenarios as well as five new scenarios. It supports controller input, progress saving, and multiplayer functionality, allowing users to create rooms and play with friends online. While the service can be accessed on some retro handheld devices, performance varies depending on the hardware.

The project is not officially affiliated with Capcom. There has been community speculation regarding the use of artificial intelligence in the development process, often referred to as ‘vibe coding,’ due to the lack of a public GitHub repository or available source code. The developer behind the project is linked to the name ‘Lucas’ or ‘Lucas Gonzalez Falcon,’ though the full team remains unconfirmed.
