Resident stops burglary attempt in Valls, Spain
Two suspected thieves placed transparent plastic threads between the door frames of apartments in Valls to detect which homes were vacant during the summer holidays. A neighbor filmed the activity, warned other residents and alerted the Mossos d'Esquadra. The police intervened before the thieves could return, and the robbery was averted.
The method, previously used by a criminal group dismantled by the Spanish National Police in May 2026, involves leaving a filament that remains in place if no one enters a property, signalling an empty target.
The swift community response and police action prevented loss of property and highlighted a growing tactic among burglars targeting holiday homes.
