Shot in the Dominican Republic, the production moved locations due to disputes regarding tax incentives offered by the Puerto Rican government. The film features a high-profile international cast, including Bad Bunny in his first leading role, alongside Viggo Mortensen, Edward Norton, and Javier Bardem.

Residente co-wrote the script with Oscar-winning screenwriter Alexander Dinelaris. The production is supported by cinematographer Anthony Dod Mantle and executive producer Alejandro G. Iñárritu. The film is a production of 1868 Studios, aimed at promoting Latin culture globally.
