Residential architecture in India blends heritage with modern design
Recent architectural highlights in India showcase diverse residential designs that blend traditional heritage with modern living.
In Bangalore, the Coromandel Court, a 12,000-square-foot residence designed by Meera Pyarelal of Temple Town, utilizes a philosophy termed ‘Heirloom Modernism’. The home integrates South Indian heritage with global influences, featuring antique timber, indigenous crafts, and classical Indian art. Notable elements include a pooja room inspired by temple architecture and a children’s room with Channapatna-inspired detailing.
In Ballari, North Karnataka, Studio Ruh designed an 8,000-square-foot, three-storey residence for business owner Vicky Jain and his multi-generational family. The home is structured into three-bedroom units across different levels to balance shared family interaction with private retreats. The design emphasizes warm materials such as timber, brass, and marble, alongside handcrafted details like brass inlay and silk-panel doors.
