Residential developments expand in Berlin and Potsdam

New residential development projects are underway in Berlin and Potsdam, highlighting different approaches to the regional housing market.

In Berlin, the STADT UND LAND Wohnbauten-Gesellschaft mbH is expanding its portfolio by adding 366 new rental apartments across the Spandau, Lichtenberg, and Friedrichshain districts. Of these, 359 are designated as publicly subsidized housing. In Spandau, construction has begun on 63 subsidized units, with completion expected by summer 2027. In Lichtenberg, a project in Karlshorst has reached the roofing stage, providing 234 new apartments.

In Potsdam, the Hasso-Plattner-Stiftung is investing tens of millions of euros to construct 107 apartments at Brauhausberg. While the project aims to fund the foundation’s cultural and educational work, the rental prices have sparked local debate. Critics from the Potsdam Left party have raised concerns over the costs, noting that small units are being offered at approximately 25 euros per square meter, which they argue is problematic given the existing housing shortage.
