Residential fire in Berlin leaves four injured
A residential fire in Berlin-Alt-Treptow on Karl-Kunger-Straße resulted in four injuries. The blaze originated in the second floor of a rear building within a five-story residential complex. According to the Berlin Fire Department, two individuals sustained serious injuries while two others were treated for minor injuries; all four were transported to a hospital.
Emergency responders activated a mass casualty incident plan due to the number of people affected. The operation involved eleven fire engines, two turntable ladders, seven ambulances, and a rescue helicopter. Firefighters used breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire from within and employed a pressure fan for ventilation. Police are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
In a separate incident in Zurich, a battery fire broke out in the basement of a school building in District 4. While heavy smoke spread through the upper floors, no injuries were reported as students were away for school holidays. One person was rescued from an upper floor via an aerial ladder, and the building has been closed for use until remediation is complete.
