São Paulo’s Lapa district warehouse fire spreads smoke across city

A large fire broke out around 00:38 on 23 June 2026 at a 10,000 m² auto‑parts distribution complex on Rua Emílio Goeldi in the Lapa district of São Paulo. The blaze, fueled by stored plastic, paper and metal, caused parts of the warehouse roofs to collapse and generated a dense column of smoke that drifted over neighborhoods including Perdizes, Pompeia, Barra Funda, Santa Cecília and Vila Mariana.

At least 16 fire engines and more than 45 firefighters were deployed, with some reports noting 52 personnel on the scene. No injuries were reported and the fire was contained within the premises, preventing spread to adjacent buildings. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire, and the municipal Defense Civil agency has been tasked with a technical inspection of the damaged structures.
