Residential fires in Italy cause injuries and evacuations
Two separate residential fires in Italy have resulted in injuries and evacuations.
In Massa Lombarda, a fire broke out in a kitchen on Via Dante Alighieri, likely caused by a refrigerator overheating. An elderly couple, aged 80 and 82, were hospitalized due to smoke inhalation. The 82-year-old man was transferred to a hyperbaric center in Ravenna for specialized treatment.
In Melito, a fire caused by an external air conditioning unit on a rooftop devastated a building in the 219 district. While most residents were able to return to their homes following stability checks, six families were evacuated to a hotel in Casoria. Emergency crews are currently conducting cleanup operations and removing damaged roofing materials.
