Residential fires reported in Santo Anastácio and Salvador

Two separate residential fires occurred in Brazil over the weekend. In Santo Anastácio, a violent fire on Avenida José Bonifácio completely destroyed a home, leaving the resident homeless. While no injuries were reported, local authorities, including the Municipal Coordination for Protection and Civil Defense (COMPDEC), are investigating the incident. Preliminary findings from regional coordinator Renato Gouvea suggest the possibility of arson.

In Salvador, a fire broke out in an eighth-floor apartment at the Parque Iguatemi building in the Brotas neighborhood. The blaze prompted an evacuation of the building. One resident reportedly broke down a door to attempt to fight the flames and assisted in evacuating a woman in a wheelchair and children. While no serious injuries were reported, several individuals required medical attention for smoke inhalation.
