Residential living challenges rise in maintenance and storage

Recent data and personal accounts highlight evolving challenges in residential living, particularly regarding home maintenance and storage efficiency.

For elderly residents, the physical and financial burden of maintaining detached houses is increasing. As homeowners age, tasks such as garden upkeep, roof repairs, and exterior maintenance become physically taxing. According to a survey by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, elderly couples prioritizing relocation often cite accessibility and ease of living as primary concerns.

In a separate survey of 300 homeowners conducted by NEXER Group and Cuore Home Co., Ltd., over 40% of detached house residents expressed dissatisfaction with their home storage. The most common complaint, cited by 24.7% of respondents, was insufficient storage capacity. Other issues included difficulty accessing stored items and inconvenient storage locations. The living room was identified as the most common area for clutter, with 33.3% of respondents noting it as a difficult space to keep organized.
