Residential solar battery adoption rises in U.S. and Australia

Residential battery storage adoption is increasing significantly in both the United States and Australia. In the U.S., battery storage was paired with 37% of new residential solar installations in 2025, up from 25% in 2024. California continues to lead this trend, with 74% of new residential solar installations including storage, driven in part by the transition to the Net Billing Tariff (NEM 3.0). Adoption rates also rose in other states, notably in Arizona and Texas.

In Australia, more than 284,000 home batteries were installed in the ten months leading to May 2026, representing a growth of over 200% following the introduction of a federal rebate. Consumers are increasingly choosing between Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) and Nickel Manganese Cobalt (NMC) chemistries. LFP is noted for higher thermal stability and longer cycle life, while NMC offers higher energy density.
