Residents displaced by building collapses in Spain face ongoing uncertainty
Residents in different parts of Spain continue to face displacement following structural collapses. In Balaguer, six people were preventively evacuated after a partial facade collapse of an uninhabited building on Calle Cuartel. Local authorities, including the Paeria, social services, and the Red Cross, are coordinating to provide basic necessities such as housing and food while exploring long-term residential solutions and emergency housing resources.
In Barcelona's Sant Gervasi-la Bonanova neighborhood, residents affected by a sinkhole caused by L9 construction works remain hesitant to return to their homes. Many neighbors report visible structural damage, including large cracks and misaligned windows, expressing a lack of confidence in the safety of the buildings. While some residents have been permitted to return, others are staying in hotels or with relatives due to persistent noise and dust from the ongoing construction. Some affected property owners are waiting for official certification before considering a return, while local businesses also report significant losses in revenue.
