Residents in Santiago and Bogotá report infrastructure and safety concerns
In Arroyo Hondo Abajo, Santiago, community leaders are warning of a potential bridge collapse near the “Cañada del Diablo” area. Divino Castillo, president of the local neighborhood association, reported significant damage to the road structure and its protective mechanisms, including the loss of gabions. Residents expressed concern that heavy rains could exacerbate the structural instability, threatening both commuters and more than 15 nearby homes. Local leaders have called for immediate intervention from Santiago Mayor Ulises Rodríguez and provincial authorities.
In Bogotá, residents near the 21 Ángeles TransMilenio station in the Suba locality have reported issues regarding the space beneath a pedestrian bridge. Neighbors allege that the area has seen an increase in makeshift settlements and suspected drug trafficking following the installation of stones under the structure approximately two months ago. The community is seeking clarification on the purpose of the installation and is calling for improved surveillance and urban maintenance to address security and sanitation concerns.
