Resistencia investigation shifts to homicide after 19-year-old dies

Authorities in Resistencia, Chaco, have reclassified a criminal investigation as a suspected homicide following the death of 19-year-old Lucas Demián Caravaca. Caravaca died on October 28 after spending 81 days in critical condition at Hospital Perrando.

The incident occurred on August 8 near the Plaza 25 de Mayo amphitheater. Video footage captured the assault, showing a young man in a blue sweatshirt repeatedly striking the victim while bystanders shouted incitements to continue the attack. Caravaca had suffered multiple traumas and required mechanical ventilation and neurosurgery during his hospitalization.

A 17-year-old male, identified as the alleged perpetrator, has been located and presented before the Court of Childhood, Adolescence, and Family No. 4. The case, previously investigated as serious injury, is now being handled by Prosecutor Rosana Soto under the charge of simple homicide, though judicial decisions will account for the suspect's status as a minor.
