Respawn Entertainment announces updates for Apex Legends
Respawn Entertainment is implementing several updates and long-term design changes for Apex Legends. The developer has confirmed that movement remains a core identity for the game, though they are focusing on balancing abilities that combine high speed with high evasiveness. Developers noted that certain abilities, such as those used by Axle, Ash, and Octane, can become problematic when they make players too difficult to track during combat.
Additionally, Respawn plans to expand the Amps system, a mechanic introduced in August 2025. The system, which allows players to equip lootable passive abilities to customize their playstyle, is intended to become a permanent and growing part of the Battle Royale sandbox.
A minor technical update was also released on August 26 to address specific bugs. Fixes included restoring Octane’s passive health restoration, resolving issues where players were locked out of actions in Battle Royale mode, and correcting a bug that allowed Gibraltar to sprint faster than intended.
