Respiratory infection risks rise with winter temperatures
As temperatures drop, health authorities are emphasizing the importance of vaccination and specialized care to combat the rise in respiratory infections. The influenza vaccination campaign for the 2026-2027 season targets high-risk groups, including adults over 60, children aged 6 to 59 months, pregnant women, and individuals with chronic conditions such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease.
In Argentina, data from the National Program for Acute Lower Respiratory Infections (IRAB) indicates that these illnesses account for 70 percent of outpatient consultations and 50 percent of pediatric hospitalizations during the winter. Specialists highlight that bronchiolitis, pneumonia, and laryngitis are leading causes of pediatric medical visits and represent a significant cause of reducible mortality in children under five.
Respiratory kinesiologists play a critical role in managing these conditions by evaluating patients to maintain airway permeability and support efficient breathing. Early detection and specialized intervention are considered essential to preventing complications in infants and young children.
