Respiratory infections rise in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Austria
Respiratory infections are on the rise across Bosnia and Herzegovina and Austria as the colder season begins.
In Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Institute of Public Health of Republika Srpska reported over 4,200 acute respiratory infections in a single week, with 13 patients hospitalized due to severe cases. Medical professionals note that while symptoms like fever, sore throat, and cough are common, there is currently no declared influenza epidemic in the region. Doctors have also observed an increase in gastrointestinal viruses. Most affected individuals are children and young adults.
In Austria, health experts are warning of a new wave of respiratory illnesses, specifically noting a rise in SARS-CoV-2 infections. The XFG variant is being closely monitored. Data from the Sentinel network indicates a positive test rate of approximately 10 percent for COVID-19. Austria has recorded 65,741 cases of influenza-like infections, with the highest concentrations in Vienna, Upper Austria, and Lower Austria. Medical experts recommend wearing masks in crowded indoor spaces, frequent hand hygiene, and ensuring proper ventilation to mitigate transmission.
