Respiratory infections rise in Luxembourg and Croatia

Respiratory infections are showing increased activity in Luxembourg and Croatia. In Luxembourg, laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases rose by 28 percent between September 28 and October 4, 2026, reaching 134 cases compared to 105 the previous week. Health authorities noted that this increase has continued for four consecutive weeks, though levels remain lower than in previous years. Additionally, influenza cases have risen, with 51 reported cases compared to 28 in the prior week, and virus concentrations in wastewater have increased. Dominant COVID-19 variants identified include XFG and NB.1.8.1.

In Croatia, the Croatian Institute of Public Health (HZJZ) confirmed that influenza appeared earlier than usual this year, with an uptick noted as early as mid-August, potentially linked to travel. While there was a spike in cases during the 36th week, the situation has since stabilized to levels consistent with the current period. Influenza A has been identified, including two subtypes, though health officials indicate that the overall number of reported cases remains relatively low.
