Responsible Fintech Institute launches post-quantum security pilot
The Responsible Fintech Institute (RFI) and Safeheron have launched a cross-regional pilot program to test post-quantum cryptography (PQC) for digital asset transactions. The initiative aims to develop quantum-resilient infrastructure for wallet generation and on-chain transfers to protect against future quantum computing threats.
The pilot utilizes a multi-party computation (MPC) protocol supporting the NIST FIPS 204 ML-DSA-65 digital signature standard. Testing is being conducted on the NEAR Protocol's quantum-resistant testnet. Participating financial institutions include Portugal’s Bison Bank and DK Bank, while regulatory observers include the Abu Dhabi Global Market, Bhutan’s Gelephu Financial Services Office, and the Malta Financial Services Authority.
Following the testing phase, the consortium plans to publish a whitepaper detailing its findings and intends to open-source the underlying protocol code to allow for independent security scrutiny. This effort aligns with broader global movements toward quantum readiness, such as the U.S. Treasury’s recently announced Quantum-Readiness Task Force.
