Responsible Gaming Education Month highlights gambling prevention

September marks Responsible Gaming Education Month (RGEM), an initiative focused on increasing awareness of gambling risks and providing resources for prevention, treatment, and recovery.

In Florida, stakeholders are emphasizing the importance of recognizing early warning signs of gambling issues, such as chasing losses, hiding activity from loved ones, or using gambling to cope with stress. The Florida Gaming Control Commission (FCCG) provides confidential self-assessment tools to help individuals evaluate their behavior amidst an evolving landscape of digital access and sports wagering.

In Michigan, the Michigan Lottery is highlighting available support services, including the National Problem Gambling Helpline. The Lottery provides $2 million annually to the compulsive gaming prevention fund, managed by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, to support statewide education and treatment. Michigan players also have access to safeguards such as self-exclusion periods, deposit limits, and loss limits.
