Restaurant Brands International posts strong Q2 earnings as Burger King US sales surge

Restaurant Brands International (RBI) reported second‑quarter 2026 earnings that beat Wall Street expectations, posting adjusted earnings of $1.07 per share on net revenue of $2.52 billion, up 4.5 %. The turnaround was driven by Burger King, whose U.S. same‑store sales rose 8.5 % and helped lift RBI’s net income to $507 million, compared with $189 million a year earlier. By contrast, Tim Hortons saw flat performance, with comparable sales up only 0.1 % in the quarter.

Burger King’s momentum also reshaped the U.S. burger market: the chain overtook Wendy’s to become the second‑largest burger chain by sales, while McDonald’s maintained its lead. RBI’s growth was supported by restaurant renovations, sharper marketing and a focus on core menu items such as the Whopper. The company also announced a new Tim Hortons location in Austin, Texas, slated for completion in January 2027.

Analysts noted the strong performance, with the chain’s U.S. president highlighting value‑menu deals and ongoing remodels as key factors. RBI continues to own Burger King, Tim Hortons, Popeyes and Firehouse Subs under its parent company.
