Restaurant owner in Balneário Camboriú convicted over sanitary violations
A court in Balneário Camboriú, Santa Catarina, has convicted the owner of a restaurant for severe sanitary irregularities. Following inspections triggered by municipal complaints, health authorities identified critical hygiene issues, including cockroach infestations, grease accumulation on equipment, and direct access from bathrooms to food preparation areas.
The establishment was operating without a sanitary permit and had been ordered to close in October 2024. However, investigations revealed that the business continued to operate, including selling meals through delivery apps, and had attempted to hide closure notices and use multiple registrations to bypass judicial orders.
The judge ruled that the defendant's conduct exceeded mere administrative infractions by repeatedly violating municipal and judicial closures. The owner was ordered to pay R$ 10,000 in collective moral damages and an additional R$ 10,000 fine for non-compliance with a court order.
