Restaurant robberies increase in Santiago and Viña del Mar
A series of robberies targeting restaurants and businesses has been reported in Santiago, Dominican Republic, and Viña del Mar, Chile.
In Santiago, at least four establishments in the Villa Olga and El Embrujo I residential areas have been victims of theft within a single month. Affected businesses include Pain et Chocolat, Nocciola, La Tríada Coffee & Brunch, and Sion Madrina. One establishment was forced to close temporarily due to the incidents. While community leaders maintain that the area has permanent police presence, business owners have expressed concern regarding the impact of insecurity on investment and employment.
In Viña del Mar, the restobar Idílico was recently robbed during the early hours of Thursday. The Gastronomic and Cultural Association of Barrio Poniente reported that these recurring crimes are causing significant economic losses, including the cost of repairing structural damage to roofs and walls. Association president Javier Ignacio Álvarez Gallardo described the incidents as organized operations involving multiple participants. Local merchants warned that the situation is leading to business closures and a decrease in employment opportunities in the sector.
