Retail and dining sectors expand in the Dominican Republic
The Dominican Republic is seeing new commercial activity with the expansion of major retail and food chains. Merca Jumbo has inaugurated its 11th branch in La Romana, located in the La Paz sector. The 2,000-square-meter facility includes a pharmacy, financial services via Banreservas, and an e-commerce platform for home deliveries. The opening is expected to create 90 direct jobs. As part of its corporate social responsibility, the parent company, Centro Cuesta Nacional, donated the funds originally intended for the inauguration ceremony to the Padre Abreu Nursing Home.
Simultaneously, the American fast-food franchise Carl's Jr has officially opened its first restaurant in the country, located in Santo Domingo. The new location features a modern architectural concept and aims to introduce premium grilled burgers and gourmet fast-food options to the local market. The brand's entry into the Dominican market is expected to stimulate formal employment and strengthen local supply chains.
