Retail and fast food chains expand presence in Guatemala and Ecuador

Grupo de Tiendas Asociadas (GTA) has expanded its retail footprint in Guatemala with the opening of the Supermercado Suma Gran Vía Roosevelt. Located in Guatemala City, the new 3,500-square-meter sales area is the chain's 46th branch. The opening created 169 jobs, including 111 new positions, and aims to serve both individual consumers and small-to-medium merchants by offering wholesale prices without requiring a membership.

In Ecuador, Burger King has reached a milestone of 30 locations nationwide following the inauguration of its third restaurant in Cuenca at Mall del Alto. This expansion follows a period of rapid growth since the franchise was acquired by a new business group in 2022. The new Cuenca location features modern technology, including digital kiosks for autonomous ordering, and the company plans to further expand in the city with a drive-thru location.
