O2 Telefónica to sell two call centers in Germany
O2 Telefónica is reducing its call center network by selling its locations in Rostock and Bremen to the French digital services provider TP, formerly known as Teleperformance. The deal involves approximately 430 employees, with roughly 240 based in Rostock and 180 in Bremen. The sale is subject to antitrust authority approval and is expected to be completed by the turn of the year.
This move is part of a broader restructuring effort under new manager Santiago Argelich Hesse. O2 Telefónica is facing pressure from declining revenue and operating results, exacerbated by the loss of major customer 1&1 to Vodafone in 2024. The company previously announced plans to cut 1,100 jobs this year, representing about one-sixth of its total workforce in Germany.
The shift is also attributed to the digital transformation and the increasing use of artificial intelligence, such as chatbots and AI voice assistants, which reduces the demand for human-operated call centers.
