Retail sector labor issues emerge at Carrefour and Kaufland in Poland
Carrefour Polska has announced a group redundancy procedure that could affect up to 210 employees across four locations: Bełchatów, Sieradz, Warsaw (Bemowo Shopping Center), and Olsztyn (Narcyzowa Street). The company stated the decision follows a profitability review and is part of an ongoing transformation to improve operational efficiency and adapt to market conditions. The process is expected to be completed by 2026.
Separately, labor union OPZZ Konfederacja Pracy w Handlu has filed a report regarding Kaufland Polska in Nysa. Three whistleblowers have reported irregularities concerning working conditions and food safety. The union is seeking protection for these employees against potential retaliation and has requested an independent investigation by the National Labour Inspectorate. Allegations include psychological pressure, public humiliation of staff, staffing shortages, and improper communication practices, such as issuing work orders via WhatsApp outside of working hours.
