Retail sectors show growth in Spain and Peru
Spain's retail sector experienced a 5.7% growth in 2025, according to the European Retail 2025-2026 report by NIQ Geomarketing powered by GfK. This figure exceeds the European Union average of 2.1% and outperforms major economies such as France (2.4%), Germany (1.2%), and Italy (1.0%). With inflation in Spain at 2.7%, the growth represents a real increase in business volume. Fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) in Spain grew by 5.9%, while food retail rose by 5.5%.
In Peru, the retail sector is projected to grow between 3.5% and 6% by 2027, according to the Lima Chamber of Commerce (CCL). Under an optimistic scenario, growth could reach 6% driven by expanded consumption and economic stability. The sector also anticipates US$522 million in investments for six new shopping centers between 2026 and 2028. By the end of 2026, retail turnover in Peru is estimated to reach S/59,512 million, with supermarkets and hypermarkets accounting for 45.8% of that total.
