Retail shifts in Vigo as Veritas expands and Frutas Sol closes

The retail landscape in Vigo, Spain, is undergoing a significant transition. The organic food chain Veritas has announced its upcoming arrival in the city, with a new 250-square-meter store scheduled to open on Rosalía de Castro between November 16 and 27. The supermarket will offer over 6,000 organic references, including produce, meat, dairy, cleaning products, and in-house bakery items.

In contrast, the long-standing Galician fruit chain Frutas Sol is closing its operations. The company, which operated approximately 50 points of sale across Galicia—including Vigo, Pontevedra, and A Coruña—has decided to cease business and will proceed with collective dismissals of its staff. Despite reporting revenues exceeding 12 million euros in 2023, the chain has begun closing locations and adapting its logistics to serve only specific registered channels.
