Retail studies identify most affordable grocery stores in New Jersey and other markets

Recent retail studies highlight varying levels of affordability across different grocery markets. In New Jersey, a study by BravoDeal identified Aldi as the most affordable retailer, specifically noting its low prices for bread and eggs. Lidl ranked second, offering the most competitive prices for frozen pizza, while Trader Joe's took the third spot with low costs for white bread and peanut butter. Walmart and Target also appeared in the top five most affordable stores in the region.

In a separate market analysis for August 2026, Shoprite was identified as the most affordable retailer based on a surveyed basket of goods, with an overall cost of N$986.78. Checkers and Metro followed as the second and third most affordable options. Shoprite maintained competitive pricing on staples such as cooking oil, sugar, rice, and milk. Metro and Choppies also recorded the lowest prices for specific items like white bread, mince, and maize meal.
