Retail technology updates: Gap Inc. hires Walmart executive and eComID secures $17M

The retail technology sector has seen several significant developments involving leadership changes and new funding. Justin Breton, formerly the Head of Partnerships, Content & Emerging Experiences at Walmart, has joined Gap Inc. as Vice President of Development. In his new role, Breton will focus on ‘fashiontainment’ across brands including Gap, Old Navy, Banana Republic, and Athleta, working to develop original content and entertainment experiences.

In the startup space, Swedish company eComID has secured $17 million in a seed funding round led by Systemiq Capital. The company utilizes its ‘Shopping Passport’ and an AI shopping agent named Vera to provide personalized product discovery and sizing intelligence for over 60 brands. The capital is intended for international expansion and product development.

Additionally, Tesco is extending its trial of Simbe’s Tally, an autonomous in-store inventory scanning solution, to further its use of robotics in retail operations.
