Retail workers in France strike for higher wages
Retail employees in France participated in labor strikes on September 26, 2026, as part of broader national mobilizations demanding higher wages and improved working conditions.
At a But store in Châteaubriant, workers including sales staff, cashiers, and warehouse employees held a one-hour strike. The CFTC union is calling for 4% of a 450 million euro shareholder pool—approximately 18 million euros—to be allocated toward salary increases and participation bonuses. Employees expressed frustration over stagnant wages despite company profits.
In Nice-Lingostière, employees at a Brico Dépôt also staged a strike following a previous walkout in June. Workers cited deteriorating working conditions, staff shortages, and insufficient bonuses. While the national management of Brico Dépôt confirmed the strike action and stated that social dialogue is ongoing, the store remained open to customers.
