Retailers adapt to AI and social commerce shifts
Retail and e-commerce leaders are observing a significant shift in consumer behavior driven by artificial intelligence, social commerce, and the blurring lines between physical and digital shopping environments. During a recent industry event in São Paulo, executives from VTEX, AWS, Play2Shop, and Allos discussed how the consumer journey is evolving. Michel Tauil, president of VTEX Brazil B2C, noted that the challenge for retailers has moved from merely being present in multiple channels to fully integrating them, especially as AI agents begin to influence purchasing decisions.
In line with these trends, Mercado Livre has expanded its social commerce strategy by opening a new audiovisual studio in São Paulo. Developed in partnership with Community Creators Academy and California Content House, the facility is designed to support sellers, affiliates, and content creators. The studio aims to enhance live streaming capabilities, allowing users to discover and purchase products directly within the platform, reflecting a broader market shift where content-driven discovery is replacing traditional celebrity endorsements.
