Retailers adopt digital planning to optimize store investments

Retail companies are facing increased pressure to modernize physical stores while managing tighter investment budgets. According to the EHI Retail Institute, German retailers invested approximately seven billion euros in store renovations in 2025, a decrease of about 23 percent compared to 2023 levels.

To address faster modernization cycles and changing consumer behavior, the industry is turning toward digital solutions. Technologies such as the P’X Retail Solution by Perspectix aim to integrate store planning with assortment design, allowing companies to reuse existing fixtures while adapting to new product ranges through data-driven planograms.

Additionally, integrated store network management is becoming critical. M&L AG highlights that while retailers possess vast amounts of performance, location, and ESG data, these metrics are often siloed. Effective management requires connecting these disparate data points to prioritize investments and growth. A case study involving over 500 Vodafone shops demonstrates the practical application of integrated network control to optimize operational decisions.
