Retailers in Germany to hold open-shop Sundays on October 4

Various regions in Germany are scheduled to hold open-shop Sundays on October 4, 2026, allowing retailers to operate outside of standard Sunday closing laws.

In Bavaria, several towns and districts will participate, including Amberg, Dietfurt, Eichstätt, Plattling, Straubing, Abensberg, Untergriesbach, Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm, Weißenhorn, Oberstaufen, Bad Endorf, Berchtesgaden, Bad Birnbach, Pfronten, and Jettingen-Scheppach.

In Saarland, three cities—Saarbrücken, Saarlouis, and St. Ingbert—have announced open shopping days. In Saarbrücken, the Europagalerie shopping center has stated that all shops will be open from 13:00 to 18:00, with the food lounge opening at 11:00. Under Saarland law, these special opening hours are typically limited to five consecutive hours.
