Retailers Target AI Integration and Price Reductions for Holiday Season
Major retail and payment leaders are preparing for a shift toward AI-driven commerce. Research from Blackhawk Network (BHN) indicates that artificial intelligence is expected to fundamentally change how consumers discover and purchase gift cards. Approximately 42% of surveyed payments leaders believe an AI concierge will reshape the purchasing path by 2030, potentially selecting and sending gift cards without direct consumer intervention. Currently, 23% of payments leaders are building or piloting programs for agentic commerce, while 47% are exploring its implications.
In the retail sector, Target has launched an AI shopping assistant alongside a holiday strategy focused on affordability. The retailer has implemented price cuts on nearly 2,000 items across apparel, footwear, and home goods to attract budget-conscious shoppers. Target also expanded its holiday assortment with 8,000 new items, many of which are exclusive brands priced under $20.
