Rethymno: Fatal car accident kills 53-year-old man

A 53-year-old man, Nikos Xeroudakis, died following a car accident on the road connecting Plakia and Sellia in Rethymno on Tuesday afternoon. Under circumstances currently under investigation, the four-wheeled vehicle he was operating veered off course and fell into a cliff.

Xeroudakis was reportedly pinned by the vehicle and was found unconscious. Due to the difficult terrain, emergency services launched a significant operation involving four fire brigade vehicles, nine firefighters, and EMAK teams. He was transported to the Spili Health Center, where his death was confirmed.

The deceased, a father of three daughters, was the brother of Archimandrite Bartholomaios Xeroudakis, the Abbot of the Holy Monastery of the Holy Spirit of Kissos. The funeral is scheduled for Thursday, September 24, at the Holy Church of the Dormition of the Mother of God in Sellia.
