Rethymno honors late politician Ioannis Kefalogiannis
A ceremony was held in Rethymno to unveil a bust of the late Ioannis Kefalogiannis, a long-serving Member of Parliament and former Greek government minister. The event took place at the Municipal Garden following a decision by the Rethymno Municipal Council to honor his political legacy.
The ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Nikitas Kaklamanis, President of the Hellenic Parliament, and Kostis Hatzidakis, Vice President of the Government. Kefalogiannis's daughters—Minister of Tourism Olga Kefalogianni, Deputy Regional Governor of Attica Christina Kefalogianni, and Danai Kefalogianni—were also present.
Speakers highlighted Kefalogiannis's decades of service to the region, noting his contributions to infrastructure and development in Rethymno from 1958 to 2007. Mayor Giorgos Marinakis emphasized the city's debt to the late politician for his role in local development and his vision for balancing growth with the protection of cultural and natural heritage.
