Rethymno to host commemorative edition for Alexandros Panagoulis

The Municipality of Rethymno will host the presentation of the commemorative edition ‘Alexandros Panagoulis: Defiance in Death’ on Monday, October 19, 2026, at the House of Culture. The publication is a collaboration between the Archipelago Cultural Society and Kastaniotis Publishers.

The edition honors Alexandros Panagoulis, an emblematic figure of the anti-dictatorship resistance, marking 50 years since his death in 1976. It features 63 selected photographs and 31 texts from historians, authors, poets, and academics, including international personalities, as well as works by Panagoulis himself.

The event will include remarks from Rethymno Mayor Giorgos H. Marinakis, Constitutional Law professor Nikos Alivizatos, and contemporary history professor Giorgos Margaritis. Also participating are Miltiadis Kloniakis and former minister Nikos Sifounakis, one of the edition's editors.
