Retired Army Captain Anna King sues DoD over alleged National Guard assault

Retired Army captain and Purple Heart recipient Anna King has filed a $3 million claim against the Department of Defense and the Idaho National Guard, alleging she was illegally detained and assaulted by three guardsmen on May 8 in Washington, D.C. King says the guards entered her home without a warrant, handcuffed her with plastic cuffs, pressed a guard’s knee into her back and pinned her face to concrete for several minutes while she protested their presence.

King, a vocal critic of the Guard’s deployment to the capital, displayed signs such as “Occupation: Troops Out” at her residence. The ACLU of Idaho is supporting the filing as part of a broader effort to address alleged federal law‑enforcement misconduct. The incident was captured on video, showing King telling the guards “You have absolutely no authority to detain me” before being restrained. No criminal charges have been filed against King for the alleged prior assault on the guards.

A Department of Defense spokesperson declined to comment on the claim, citing policy on ongoing investigations.
