Retired Entrepreneurs Must Keep Paying Pension Contributions, May Request Higher Payout

Serbian pension regulations require entrepreneurs who retire and continue self‑employment to remain liable for pension and disability insurance contributions. The rule, cited by the Republic Pension and Disability Insurance Fund, states that retirement does not terminate the contribution obligation under the Law on Mandatory Social Insurance Contributions. After at least one year of continued insured activity, retirees can apply for a recalculation of their pension, which may result in a higher amount if the new calculation is favourable.

The provision applies to those who receive the statutory old‑age pension and maintain their own business, and it is intended to ensure ongoing coverage while offering a potential financial benefit for compliant contributors.
