Retired Indian Army Captain arrested for leaking military secrets

A 52-year-old retired Indian Army Captain, identified as Babu, has been arrested in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, for allegedly sharing confidential military information and equipment details with an unidentified woman via WhatsApp.

Babu, who served 28 years in the military and retired in 2025 from the Army’s equipment division, reportedly began communicating with the woman approximately one year ago. Investigations suggest the contact began with inappropriate conversations before transitioning into requests for sensitive military data. When Babu did not have specific information, he allegedly contacted Army offices by telephone to obtain the details before forwarding them to the woman.

Following a suspicious inquiry conducted by Army officials and central intelligence agencies, Babu was detained on October 23, 2026, and handed over to the Vellore Rural Police. Authorities are currently investigating the identity of the woman, the operator of the WhatsApp account, and whether foreign nationals or overseas organizations are involved in a potential honeytrap operation.
