Retired Judge Giribala Singh and Son Samarth Remanded in Twisha Sharma Death Case
The Chief Judicial Magistrate court in Bhopal ordered retired district judge Giribala Singh and her son Samarth Singh to be placed in judicial remand until June 16, after the Central Bureau of Investigation declined to seek further custodial interrogation. Both were transferred to Bhopal Central Jail where they will be housed separately from other inmates.
Twisha Sharma, a 33‑year‑old former model and actor, was found dead at her marital home on May 12. While the death was initially reported as a suicide, Sharma’s family alleges dowry harassment and murder. The case has drawn wide attention, leading the Madhya Pradesh High Court to cancel an earlier anticipatory bail for Giribala Singh. During the hearing, Giribala Singh claimed an advocate for the victim’s family assaulted her son inside a Jabalpur court and called for protection, also objecting to what she described as a media trial. In response, counsel for the victim’s family asked the court to review CCTV footage.
The CBI also reconstructed the crime scene at the Sharma residence, using an 80‑kg dummy to verify statements and the sequence of events surrounding the death.
